Breaking | Assam TMC President and other leaders resign over Mamata’s remarks on NRC

Guwahati, July 2: Stating dissatisfaction over West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee’s remarks on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, senior TMC leaders including the President of the Pradesh Committee have decided to resign from their posts on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, President TMC, Assam Pradesh, Dipen Pathak while resigning from his post alleged that TMC supremo has tried to disrupt the present peaceful situation in Assam by sending eight-member delegation team to Barak Valley from West Bengal.

Dipen Pathak also revealed that he was not informed anything about the plans and strategies by the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on her stand over NRC issue in Assam.

Condemning the visit of the delegation team, Pathak further alleged that TMC Supremo might be hoping about some political benefit in West Bengal, thus she tried to disrupt the present situation in Assam with her own political agendas.

“TMC supremo didn’t discuss anything on the matter with me nor any other senior leaders from the TMC high command, I repeatedly instructed them that their visit in Assam would anger the local people, but they didn’t follow my instruction,” alleged Pathak.

Sources stated that the state committee, as well as the district committees of the TMC in Assam, are planning to resign together soon. TMC might soon cease to exist in Assam, sources added.

Meanwhile, 8 TMC leaders (6 MPs and 2 MLAs) arrived at the Silchar Airport on Thursday but were detained by the Police citing the Sec 144 imposed in Silchar in the apprehension of the TMC visit and the resulting disruption of law and order in the region.

Earlier, on Wednesday, two senior leaders of TMC in Assam, Diganta Saikia and Pradeep Pachoni had also resigned from their respective posts in AITMC and also claimed that CM Mamata Banerjee doesn’t know about the ground reality in Assam, thus she had slammed the NRC process in Assam without knowing the ground reality.

It may be mentioned that after the final draft NRC was published on July 30, CM Mamata Banerjee had alleged that the NRC would lead to civil war and there will be bloodshed in Assam.

She also accused BJP of playing vote-bank politics by targeting Bengalis and Biharis living in Assam.
